I recently read Bob Goff’s book, “Love Does” (if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend!!!). In the book, he talks about what it looks like to become love and live out a life that reflects the life of Jesus. In one of my favorite lines, Bob says, “I used to think you had to be special for God to use you, but now I know you simply need to say yes.” This simple yet powerful statement has really resonated with me in the past few weeks. We don’t have to be a certain person with any particular qualifications in order to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We just have to say yes.

So I said yes.

Many of you may be wondering why I would choose to give up a month of my summer to serve in an unfamiliar, foreign country instead of staying back home in my comfortable neighborhood, with people that I’m comfortable with, doing the things that I’m comfortable doing. There are a lot of unknowns when traveling across the world. When you are an avid planner like me, it can be especially scary. I’m going to spend an entire month completely out of my comfort zone. Yet in this season, the Lord has been teaching me a lot about what it looks like to live a life of abandon and trust. I don’t anticipate this trip being easy, but I am so expectant that God will show up. I am in awe of the fact that our God delights in using ordinary people like me to build His kingdom!

That being said, I could not be more excited to see what God has in store for my month in Thailand. My time there will involve teaching English, ministering to children, visiting prisons and ministering in the red light districts. My team will also have the chance to bring hope to the lives of youth through organizing camps, seminars, and events and working alongside the local church. It is going to be incredible to see the name of Jesus being proclaimed in a country where only 1% of people know Christ!

Until the next update, please be praying for Thailand and for my team as we prepare for the trip. If you feel led, please consider partnering with me financially by donating to my trip. I am so thankful for all of the support! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions 🙂

Lots of love,

Maddie
